Engineer of the Year
Presentation by SCA President Bill Nesbitt at Salute Banquet Nov. 3, 2005

The recipient of this year’s Engineer of the Year Award is being recognized for a series of projects involving multiple entities all with different requirements and conditions.  Along with the contractors on the job, the Engineer was challenged to meet the needs of the City of Springfield, the Cooper Family Trust and the Historical Site Board.

The underground utilities had to be relocated at Cooper Park to prepare for the new tennis courts building.  And then, the interior and exterior lighting of the new building had to match the existing facilities’.

The other facet of this project involved re-lighting at five of the City’s oldest and most visible parks:  Fassnight, Grant Beach, Silver Springs, Smith and Sequiota.  Again, the re-lighting was required to match as closely as possible the historic fixtures already in place.

Miles Park from the Parks Department worked with the team on these projects and said, “I appreciate the extraordinary attention to detail and thoroughness of the construction documents they prepare.”

The Contractor who nominated this team stated, “They do a great job.  You get contractor answers and all parties are treated fair and equal.  Their construction documents are outstanding with detailed specs and timely responses to field direction and inspections.  The firm does an excellent job on change orders, time allowances for the project and communications on upcoming jobs to bid.”

For Expansion and Utility Projects at Cooper Park and Re-Lighting Other City Parks with Historical Fixtures; to recognize your achievement of meeting the challenges involved in working with multiple entities to achieve excellence of design and execution on these projects; and to celebrate your continued cooperation with other participants in the local Construction Community, we proudly present the 2005 Engineer of the Year Award to Smith-Goth Engineers, Inc. Smith-Goth is represented tonight by David Smith, Norman Goth and David Polk.
