| All three facilities were designed per the FEMA Design and Construction Guide for Community Shelters, so that partial funding could be obtained from FEMA. The facilities were designed with secondary uses besides being shelters. The Houston shelter (below) will be the basement of a library in the future. The Collins shelter doubles as a Community Center. The Willow Springs shelter (above) is also a school gymnasium. Design of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were coordinated with the architects for protection from missiles. |
